The Elephant

The Elephant is another exercise inspired by classic Pilates. In Pilates, the elephant is performed on the reformer. We perform the Elephant on a lightly different apparatus, which we call the carriage and carriage bench, but the biomechanics are basically the same.

The Elephant activates your deep abdominal muscle, known as the Transversus Abdomens. Training this specifically abdominal is believed to help reduce lower back pain in some people. Activating your Transversus Abdominis requires a deep mind body connection. Without bespoke equipment such as our carriage and carriage bench, or a Pilates reformer, most people will be unable to learn this connection with their Transversus Abdominis.
