Activelab is currently in beta testing phase. We are waitting for our commercial space in Vancouver, coming in May.
Orientation session
Everyone starts with five private orientation sessions, where you get acquainted with our equipment, how to use it safely and not break anything. After your orientation, you will have the options of Continuing Privates or Open Gym (see below).
Your very first session.
On your first visit, we always start with a light session of stretching and core work. We start this way for a couple reasons:
Stretching and core exercise tends to be neglected and overlooked by most people in gyms. We want to be sure they get overlooked at Activelab.
Walking into any new fitness environment is inherently a bit stressful. We start off with stretching and core work because it is relaxing and stress free. It is a way of easing gently into the space and system.
We start gradually
Many of our new clients are not currently practicing strength training. If you jump into the strength training after time off, this can lead to the excessive soreness called “delayed onset muscle soreness”, or DOMS. DOMS is very unpleasant, and is not the kind of soreness that says, ‘you just did a good workout’. DOMS sets you back rather than moving you forward. For this reason, we approach strength training gradually.
Progress over time
For clients who have the inclination, we move forward to more demanding exercises, such as plyobox leaps and kettlebell swings. This gets into high intensity internal training (HIIT). HIIT isn’t for everyone. We want to be sure a client is prepared for this grueling form of exercise.
Open Gym
One of the things that makes Activelab different is Open Gym. It is not personal training, and it is not the “anything goes” environment of a big box gym either. It is somewhere in-between. Open Gyn is closely supervised at all times. A trainer will be there to help with the equipment and keep you moving along.
